Kathu Orientation Tour (Phuket, Thailand)

A more quiet place to visit than the majority of other nice destinations at the Phuket Island. It is mostly famous for its Vegetarian Festival, which originated here. Kathu is a district which incorporates Phuket City, Patong and Kammala. But this guide refers to the Kathu city. There is a great number of attractions and landmarks located here. But here are included only some of them. If you have enough time, be sure to visit the Kathu Shrine, Kathu Tin Mining Museum and get to the Red Mountain.






 1. Pun Tuao Kong Chinese Shrine

Pun Tuao Kong Chinese Shrine, better known as the temple on Patong Hill is a well known place among locals and is often visited by tourists. It was built in 1980 and is not a big one, as it is used in Thailand. It stands on the hill and is a kind of protecting it. The Shrine is located near the road and many people, when driving near honk their horn, to express their respect and faith. If you are going to enter it, you should do everything properly and be prepared for it. Be sure to have fruits with you, you will have to set off some fire crackers, make an offering of fruits and other rituals on your wish. 2. ATV Park

ATV means all terrain vehicle, and there is a great one located right in Kathu, couple minutes from the Patong Beach. It is a great alternative to spend your time interesting and with a lot of fun! You can take couple courses in the specialized park, but also you can take an ATV in order to explore the environs. Kathu is well known for its natural beauty, there are lots of hills, a red mountain, many lakes and forests. It is great chance to view at least some of them while riding your iron horse. Don't miss the famous Kathu Waterfalls on your way to falling inlove in local places. Don't be afraid for your safety, all necessary measures to protect you are taken. 3. Go-Kart Speedway 

If you really like driving with speed and fill the taste of adrenaline, than the Go-Kart Speedway will become one of the best attractions while staying in Kathu. It is also an ideal place if you travel with children, sessions for juniors are also available! It is runed since 1991 and there are also many people who want to race. Also Mini Grand Prix are organised, if there is a group of minimum 5 persons who want to participate, than you are in. It will final with great prizes for those who win! 4. Food Market

Great variety of food is displayed on the stalls of the Kathu Food Market, which is situated near the intersection of the two main local roads. Phuket is famous for its tasty and at the same time cheap seafood: fish, shellfish, seaweeds, crabs, and lots of other interesting exemplars. Here you will have the opportunity to see the whole range of Thai produces- fruits and vegetables. I am sure you will enjoy this visit, especially after practicing the speed racing you will probably get hungry. For further walking you will need to supply your power! So, go ahead and make some grocery, it may be even fun! And do not forget to haggle!

5. Jungle Bungy Jump

6. Cable Ski and Wake Boarding 

Also an interesting variant to spend time with fun and energy lasting is the so popular here Cable Ski and Wake Boarding. Adrenaline is guaranted! Ausome obstacles are put in your way, it will for sure be a special practice which will transform in an adventure! Oh, obstacles, I have almost forgotten to mention them: A-frame, Transfer Box, Table Top, Flat Side, Mini Kicker, Roof Rail and Curved Kicker. There is a specially created lake, it is 410 meters long, 110 meters wide and 2 meters deep. The water is clean and fresh and is situated no far from the top popular local landmark- Kathu Waterfall. 7. Kathu Waterfall 

 A notable local sight is considered to be the Kathu Waterfall, also known as Kathu Sai Waterfall or Nam Tok Kathu. On the road to it you will see a black marble sign which will show you where to turn. In order to see the highest level of the waterfall you will have to climb up many many stairs, so be prepared. It would be better to have some water with you in a case, if not there are many stall with water and beverages at the levels. There are couple natural and artificially created pools where you can even take a swim or simply take photos. Kathu Waterfall flows down on one of Kao Kamala Kao Kamala Mountain sides, which is embellished by rainy forest. It is a good place to relax and calm down after an active walking tour through the town.
